South Sudan announced today that its new currency, the South Sudan pound, will go into circulation by July 18, the Associated Press reported.

On one side, the new paper money will have an illustration of John Garang, the deceased leader of South Sudan?s independence movement. It will display symbols of South Sudanese ?culture and wealth? on the other. It is expected to have a one-to-one value with the North Sudan?s currency.
