Madrid and Washington have reached the principle of an agreement to extend United States military presence for eight years in Rota and Mor?n. Meetings were held in Madrid on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs said it comes as an amendment in the agreement on defence between the two countries, but the Ministry failed to give any details.
The text will regulate the base at Rota in C?diz which will see four destroyers of the Arleigh Burke class with 1,100 soldiers. The will form part of the Naval component of the new NATO anti-missile shield.
Now the amendment, which is reported to be short, will be put through the two countries internal procedures.
