Personal Review
As Editor of LearnToFly.ca, I personally reviewed the COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator package this week. I had previously heard a lot of good things about this training software, and I was eager to receive the COMM1 package.
Almost 7 Hours of Comm Training
I began at lesson 1, and as I progressed through the lessons, I really began to appreciate what a great training resource COMM1 really is. It?s very thorough, and COMM1?includes almost seven hours of Communications Training!
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator is a proven tool for getting you up to date on communicating professionally with ATC, Flight Service, Flight Watch, other aircraft, and other ground personnel. COMM1 includes 6.5 hours of training based on actual real world flying situations and the required dialogue with ATC.
COMM1 Multimedia Headset ATC-2CVM
I?used the official?COMM1 ATC-2CVM Headset with the COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator?software. The multimedia headset has a built-in boom microphone for easy, hands-free talking as you progress through the practice lessons.?The?headset with boom mic?helps you feel like you are actually communicating with ATC as you request clearances and interact with recorded ATC messages. It?s very realistic, effective and fun!
Pilot Seat
The COMM1 ATC-2CVM Headset puts you in the Pilot Seat, anytime, and anywhere. The headset is adjustable, and with the attached microphone you can?transmit and receive rich audio as you simulate radio communications with ATC, directly from?your computer.
Wearing the headset, distractions are minimized and your comm training experience is greatly enhanced. The?COMM1 headset includes a 6-foot-long cord with clip. The headset has a?volume control and also a?microphone on/off switch.
VFR Radio Communications -?Training and Experience
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator is ideal for student pilots, learning about Pilot Communications for the very first time. But, it?s also great for seasoned pilots, to help them brush-up on proper Pilot Communication etiquette and procedure. COMM1 will help any pilot (student or seasoned) to become more confident and proficient with pilot radio communications.
Interactive Audio ? Pilot Communications Training
Easy Navigation
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator has easy to use navigation to simplify your pilot radio training.
You may easily play, pause and repeat?sound clips anytime. Practice over and over, until you have mastered any lesson. Their is a briefing text with each lesson, and you can follow the narration?of the briefing text by reading?along in?the text panel.?Accompanying images and emphasis points are highlighted in the main screen to help you visualize the lesson for better retention.
Training Lessons
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator has 76 lessons/briefings. These lessons include comprehensive tutorial briefings, and most importantly, 6.5 hours of?recorded samples of?actual ATC-Pilot simulations or exchanges to prepare pilots for realistic flight scenarios.
Practice Practice Practice
Practice makes perfect, and with COMM1 Radio Simulation, the student pilot can quickly become proficient in radio communications. You can practice rapid-fire radio calls, approaches, departures and clearances over and over, until you are confident and prepared for?real world?pilot radio communications.

Self Paced Lessons
Select from any of these self-paced lessons as you learn how to talk like a Pro. COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator uses the very effective ?Select and Say? method of teaching radio procedures and communications. The user benefits from the interactive learning environment and immediate feedback is continuously provided for faster learning.
On-screen Avionics Panel
Operate the on-screen COM 1, COM 2, NAV 1, NAV 2, and audio panel. The?built-in?COMM1 radios tune and respond just like the real thing. Based on the Bendix King KX-165 NAV/COM Transceiver, the simulated Radio Stack is very realistic, and ideal for pilot radio training.
Dial Frequency
The on-screen radio, built in to COMM1 Radio Simulator, works much like a real radio stack. The student pilot dials in the desired frequency into the standby position, and then clicks the Toggle button to move the frequency to the Active position.
The user may select the radio to transmit on, and select a radio to listen on, just like in a real cockpit.
VFR Radio Communications will come natural to you as you practice real world flying scenarios using COMM1 Radio Simulator. You will benefit from lesson briefings, sample recordings, and lesson debriefings. You will be presented with many real world flying scenarios, where you can practice your VFR Radio Communications over and over. You will be challenged as you have to locate the correct frequency, tune the radio, communicate and interact with simulated ATC Controllers.
Talk to ATC
Practice talking to ?ATC?, and then listen to their responses and your own recorded exchanges. The student pilot can easily and immediately compare their responses to actual recordings made by the voice of an expert.
Experienced Pilots Teaching You
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator was put together by a panel of experts including experienced pilots, controllers and aviation specialists. The student pilot, new pilot, and rusty pilot will learn how to handle almost any situation, in any air space. If you can master talking to ?Simulated ATC Controllers? on your computer, then you will be confident and prepared when it?s time to talk to a Real Live ATC Controller as you are Piloting an airplane.
COMM1 Radio Simulator
COMM1 VFR Radio Simulator is a great product! I love using it to practice, and refine Pilot Radio Communications. For about the same cost as an hour of flight instruction, you can invest in this helpful training resource. Use it over and over, as you practice your pilot radio communications from your computer.
